Are Textbooks Becoming Obsolete?

In their 2019 Annual Letter, Bill & Melinda Gates claimed that "textbooks are becoming obsolete". I look at whether textbooks really are becoming obsolete, and if eLearning solutions should be used to augment or replace them. The answer is more complex than a soundbite; the trends are clear.
